Dive Log 15 - 17 July 2011

On Friday the weather gave us a long deserved break and we launched at 19:00 for our night dive on Jagged Edge Reef. Danel did her first night dive with us and after being a bit sceptic now prefers night diving to diving during the day!

After a 45 min dive most divers preferred a sip of the old "Obies" rather than the normal sucker to get some heat back. Thanks to Steve and Cobus for sharing theirs with all of us! More frequent night dives are being planned in the future. Here are some pics...

Saturday morning we had a wonderful dive at Jagged Edge and also completed the navigation skills for the PADI Advanced Divers. Another 45 min dive was enjoyed with very little surge as there was no big swell running. Some big Red Roman, Red Steenbras, Nudi's etc were spotted. The brittle stars seem to be moving around and even some anemone were spotted eating on the corals. Good thing we had suckers on the boat to keep the divers quiet after the dive. Some more pics of Saturdays dive...

Sunday morning we decided to dive Discovery Channel Reef in stead of going to look for the Caves again as the tide was going out and the Gamtoos river's water is still very murky. It was probably the first time that we hardly experienced surge on this reef and a distance of about 500m was covered due to a strong westerly current and did we discover a lot! This reef is one of our best dive sites and being shallow dive times of 60 min was the order of the day. I saw the tail of a huge shark but could not get a photo of it. It seemed like a Ragged tooth and judging by the size I hope it was! Peak performance skills were completed for the PADI Advanced divers and Carlos from Subaquatica in Brazil joined us on the dive. Nice nudi's, sea stars, huge red bait, loads of reef fish and even a huge piece of fibre glass was spotted in one of the swim thru's. Here are some pics..
